Defam introduces Steve Ramos.

Photobucket

Steve Ramos comes consistent on every record. We know only because he is embodied in Defam, and if you are unfamiliar it is our job to get you familiar.

M.T.L.E.T. which stands for Music To Leave Earth To is the upcoming debut mixtape from Mr. Ramos, which has heavy production from Decap, J-Chop and a few other heavy hitters. From original joints to selective remixes, the tape will showcase a new horizon of hip hop that will shed consciousness of inspiration.

You can download one of the tracks, appropriately titled 'On My Fizz' by clicking the picture at the top.

Here is a brief interview with Steve:

DN: What's good Steve? How are you doin today?

Steve: I'm doing very good, feeling very inspired.

DN: What inspires you as an artist? And who inspires you as an artist?

Steve: Passion, honesty, timeless music… just basically the life experience inspires me. Anyone who lives from their heart is an inspiration.

DN: You use your real name as your artist name, explain why you chose not to come up with your outlandish hip hop alias?

Steve: Steve is my birth name, I make music to reflect who I am. Most importantly we ask artists to just be who they are, outlandish name or not… its all art, and its all expression.

DN: You've been in the lab for a grip, what can we expect as the outcome of this?

Steve: Expect the universe. No more, no less.

DN: Any plans for shows?

Steve: Right now we're working with venues in the New England, Merrimack Valley, NYC areas. Contact us for booking at mtletmusic@gmail.com.

DN: What is currently playing in your iPod?

Steve: Jay-Z, Sara Bareilles, Lil Wayne, Passion Pit

DN: Defam and Steve Ramos are heavy in the movement together, why do you feel people should vibe with both parties?

Steve: Because Defam got that fire! Lets keep it real.

Photobucket

DN: What is your favorite record of all time?

Steve: Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt

DN: What can people expect in 2010 from you?

Steve: The release of the world, through the channeling of timeless music and expression.

DN: Thats what it is, Steve is comin hard in 2010. Check out more of his work at myspace.com/mtletmusic

Season 2 Videoshoot

Lets start the New Year right! What better way to showcase the new offering but with a wild ass video shoot! Well to a point. On January 1st, 2010, Defam needs your help, we need some extras for the lifestyle video that will be launched with the newest line. Filming will begin at 7:30P.M. but you will need to email us to reserve your spot and for the address to the location. The reason for the secret location is to prevent an overflow in unwanted guests, so yeah this is a special event and not 'everyone' is invited. Only those who email us at contact@defamnation.com.

The concept of the video will be emailed to each guest as soon we receive our max count, therefore each person or group will play an important part to the video. You most likely will be in the video and believe me this will be a good look!

The shoot will only a take a few hours so you have plenty of time to hit the bars, clubs, parties or all the other New Years Day festivities. But, ladies and fellas, be sure to look your best! If you got that Defam, wear it!

Email: contact@defamnation.com

True Hero-Efran Penaflorida

I am putting Efren’s name in the title because he deserves all the limelight and accolades. Not only has he put our country on the global stage again, his efforts at helping the poor though education is simply heart-warming, inspiring and worth emulating. On top of these, it is amazing to see how a young man’s efforts get fulfilled with relatively minimal financial support. It goes to show that passion and not money is the key driver to any successful endeavor.

I have always believed that education is by far the greatest equalizer in society. We have heard many great stories about how people or even communities are able to rise above economic difficulties and move up the social class by having a good education. Good education empowers people, allowing them to become who they want to be and achieve their full potential. As Efren Peñaflorida eloquently said, “There are always heroes within each person.” Indeed, a well-equipped person can best bring out the hero in himself.

As I think about education, I have always wondered why it seems that the use of technology within our education system is low. While our schools now offer IT in their curriculum, integrating IT into their process and way of teaching is still in its infancy.

Successfully blending e-learning into schools' teaching methods can bring a lot of advantages. Assignments, for example, can be posted and accessed online. If online, instructions can be accurately transmitted to students and parents alike. This is important for kids who, in many cases, receive the wrong assignments or don’t receive them at all. Online materials would also mean that learning can go on should there by class disruptions. A good adoption of e-learning would have helped many Manila-based schools during the last semester when Manila had many calamities and unplanned holidays. Another advantage would be distance learning, which allows schools to optimize the teaching resources they have. Subject expert in Manila, for example, can go online to provide special sessions to students who may be in the Visayas or Mindanao.

The list of advantages can go on and on. But one particularly long-term advantage I would like to point out would be the fact that adopting e-learning forces teachers and students alike to be IT savvy. It provides a better perspective to young students on how IT can be used for better purposes other than games and Facebook, thereby integrating this perspective into their future endeavors as they grow up. This, in turn, opens up new opportunities in the exploration of new applications in technology.

I am not advocating that e-learning replace traditional teaching methods. Like any new technologies, I have always pushed the idea of using new technologies as new channels of experience. In this case, e-learning has to blend into traditional teaching to achieve greater success. We leverage the efficiencies of e-learning while at the same time harness the nurturing nature of traditional teaching methods.

The call is for school administrators to have a serious second look on e-learning. The investment will not be primarily on money as there are open-source e-learning applications available on line. Rather, the investment will be the time and effort to integrate the new process into the current school curriculum and practice. The investment will be on the effort to change the mindsets of the current crop of teachers. As Efren Peñaflorida reached out to the heroism in each person, we can do the same with each teacher. That would not be difficult to do as all teachers, with the dedication and sacrifice that they do every single day, are already everyday heroes and thus have all the hero qualities we are looking for.

DefamTV Presents: AKROBATIK

DefamTV Presents: Akrobatik from Defamation Nation on Vimeo.

This Artist Profile we had a chance to get up with Boston's very own Akrobatik. He explains where he is at currently within the game and what his plans are for the future. Akrobatik isn't your everyday hip hop artist, he's been in the game for many years and is a staple in today's local hip hop scene. If he isn't coming up with fresh rhymes daily for Jamn' 94.5's Sports Wrap-up and NESN or perfecting his craft and laying down bars for upcoming solo and collabo projects; then he is out in the field crushing bodies with his football team. Akro is a beast in the studio and a monster in the field.

Akro is a very level headed and intelligent person and knows how to deal with the pressures of todays critics and media. With his positive mentality he continues to overcome any obstacles that the culture may throw at him and overcome to still sit at the top.

Akrobatik is a perfect example to the Defam crew, continuing to make moves but not letting things get to your head. If it happens, and you made it happen, that is more rewarding then anything else.

This Winter, he heads off to Europe to do a string of dates with Edo.G and Masta Ace. Check myspace.com/therealakrobatik for more info.

And expect a collabo to drop early 2010.

Pacman Nation

Millions of Filipinos - from grandmothers to children, from soldiers to prisoners - suspended activities Sunday morning to watch local boxing hero Manny Pacquiao make history.

Fans packed town halls, sports complexes and other public places across the nation -- some lining up as early as daybreak to get seats in front of wide screen televisions broadcasting the fight live from Las Vegas, in the United States. In Manila, authorities had to turn away hundreds for fear of a stampede.

The anticipation quickly ended as Pacquiao's legendary left hook knocked out Briton Ricky Hatton less than three minutes into the fight. Some sports analysts expected it to be a close, 12-round match.

Pacquiao is the only boxer in history to win six world titles in as many weight divisions -- flyweight, junior featherweight, featherweight, junior lightweight, lightweight and now, junior welterweight.

Philippine President Gloria Arroyo was "ecstatic" to learn of Pacquiao's win while on an official visit to Egypt. From Cairo, Press Secretary Cerge Remonde read a statement from Mrs. Arroyo.

"May this victory of Manny Pacquiao inspire all Filipinos to triumph against all odds and may his example of continuing to learn and improve be emulated by all our people, especially the young... We expected him to win but not in this spectacular fashion," Remonde said.

We were planning on releasing a limited PacMan shirt with all of its proceeds to go to the GK group, but instead Jeepney has put out there own for the same purpose so we highly recommend you to check out www.jeepneyclothing.com and purchase this limited tee!

Where's Cutty?

Promo tees have been distributed over the past week to a few Defam followers.

FIGHT NIGHT!

We followed Ray Shawdee in his 3rd official fight with I.C.E Fighter Organization on Friday night. The fight took place at the Crowne Plaza Grand Ballroom in Worcester, MA. The event was wild peanuts! Place was packed and the testosterone was thick, but that didn't distract our golden boy Ray Shawdee from tapping his opponent, John Ortalani, out in the first minute in the first round! Congrats to D.O.A.'s Ray Shawdee and thank you to everyone at the event who showed loved to the fam!
